How to Lower PING?

Ever since the upgrade to Quantum Fios my ping has been higher than usual. With the old package (25/25) my ping was never any higher than 12ms. I was forced to upgrade unfortunately and although my speeds are wayyyy faster 75/35 package but I get 98/50) my Ping is always 32-60ms...Is there any solution to this? I've called Tech Support but they are no help when it comes to high latency.

Can you provide more details?  What are you trying to ping?  Can you paste the output?

Also what Operatiing system are you running on the box you are doing the ping on?

More technically savvy members will probably weigh in on this. In the mean time...

I have no idea why it would have changed, but it seems to me you don't have anything that needs a solution.  I've never seen a ping as low as 12ms. Mine are typically 23ms and up.  And I rarely see a significant correlation between ping and speed test results.

Ping is simply a way to verify that you can connect to a specific server.  3 to 5 packets are sent, and hopefully, received to determine connectivity.  A speed test is a longer duration test and consequently a more reliable indicator of whether or not you will have a suitable online experience. Although even that isn't truly reliable as speed tests can be good or bad at one server and the opposite at another server.  Also I like speed test sites that display the results in a graph.  Regardless of the speed number, a level graph is an indication of a better connection.

1. Switch ONT from coax to ethernet if you haven't already (need coax for TV part only)

2. Switch providers. Comcast has better ping times in my area (and can use services like Netflix and YouTube on a consistent basis)

I have no idea why it changed either. Everything was superb until the upgrade.. It's kinda crazy cuz my latency be the same wireless as it is wired which I've never seen before. Only reason I asked is because my little brother is a competitive gamer and noticed how bad the connection is when he plays online. As far as browsing the web and all that its perfectly fine. We do get comcast so I'll definitely look into it.  I try switching the Coax to Ethernet and see what happens

Just an FYI, if you switch from coax to ethernet, you'll need to have the fiber solutions change it on their end as well. This can be done over the phone or through online support.

The above is a great resource for doing so. Only expect a 2-5ms decrease in latency though...
