I bought my Router and now Verizon sent a return label

I bought my router from a Verizon Fios Specialist. I Specifically chose not to rent it.  I recently requested a change of address for my service and was sent a box and label to return the equipment I own. Why? Calling their support or financial office has been no help. I would love to get a straight answer.
