Incorrect info on the Fios vs. Cable Page.

Hi there,

I've tried contacting verizon over the past few months about this issue and it still seems to be unresolved.

Basically, on the page FIOS vs Cable (link below) you guys have miscalculated the speed of cable to your own detriment.

http://www22.verizon.com/Residential/FiOSInternet/FiOSvsCable/FiOSvsCable.htm

For instance, you list the fios speed as 50 Mbps and the Cable speed as 10 Mbps. When you divide by 8 bits per byte you get the following speeds...

 Fios =  6.25 MBps

Cable = 1.25 MBps

So lets say that we are downloading the said 5 MB movie trailer.

So 5 MB divided by fios speed which is 6.25 MBps gives us an overall time of 0.8 seconds. This value is correctly listed on the website.

However if we take that same 5 MB and divide it by Cable's 1.25 MBps we get  4 seconds which is four times longer than what is listed under the website.

Therefore your website lists cable as being 4 times faster than it really is. Or in other words the calculations seem to have been done assuming cable runs at 40 Mbps, which it does not I can assure you.

The "Upload Activity" Speeds for both fios and cable are correct. It is only the "Download Activity" for Cable that is incorrect.

Hopefully someone who monitors this forum can pass the word along to the right people. Should be no more than a 5 minute change for a drastic change in your advertising.

As an aside I hope that you guys really work on getting fios here in North Carolina, specifically the RTP area. I know I will be one of the first to sign on.

Thanks and have a great day.

The fios speeds are correct. I have a 20mbps down speed, and I can download a file at 2.5MBps. The top speed for fios is 50mbps. That would come out to about 6MBps. Now will most websites let you down load at that speed. No it wont. I know of a few that I believe would.

But I can say cable modem speed is a bit off. I have never had a cable modem speed clock more then 5 or 6mbps, so with them giving it a 10mbps is a bit over stating in my opinion.
