There is no such thing as stealth mode.

Some earlier versions of IE referred to Private Browsing as stealth mode.   I think IE8 was the first, not sure when they dropped that terminolgy.

Thank you for your imput.  Stealth mode may have been the wrong term, however it was running uninvited.

I have removed some programs which may have been the doorway for IE to enter but it has not helped.  Right now lurking in my task program is IE with ads showing up as what it is doing.  It also will not let me end it using Task Manager.  The only way I can find it is in Task Manager.  Yes I am upset.

It sounds to me that you're infected with malware.  I don't believe what you're seeing is a Verizon problem.

I suggest that you download and install Malwarbytes, and then run a full scan.  See what it finds.

Also, FWIW, I use a program called DU Meter to see when I'm actually downloading (or uploading) and how much.

DU Meter will tell you if you're downloading data when you doing have anything happeing on your laptop that should downloading.

And lastly (for now), you might try the utility SmartSniff:

It will show you what remote address is downloading data, how much is it downloading, and at what speed.
