I recall something about changing the network from public to private, or vise versa, on the vista machine as fixing this.

Can someone tell me(step by step) where to find the option under Vista to change from public to private. I tried looking last night and I could not find it.

The poster provider wrote Try this and tell me if it works...right clicking network icon >Network and Sharing > Customize > click Public > next > close > restart computer

Somehow, I did not find  the section starting from "Customize"

BTW, another poster on Broadband Reports was having the same exact problems as I have been. He replaced the Actiontech Router with a Dlink Router and BAM!!!!!!!!  His problems were resolved immediately. No more dropping of internet signals.

After right clicking on the icon to the lower right select Network and Sharing Center..

The screen that should come up is the "Network and Sharing Center".  Below the title "Network and Sharing Center" should be your computer name and a icon of your computer  with a line to network and another line that shows a globe and labled internet.

Just below the globe to the right is the word Customize in blue

To the left of Customize should be an icon with the work labled in bold :Network (Private Network)

Select customize...another pop up screen comes up that gives you the option to select public or private.

The problem exist on 'Private' and going to Public on a home network is NOT an answer, even if it worked, which it won't.  I am astonished that people are even sugesting this. To the people who are:  How about, while making this recomendation you explain that you will not be able to see other PC's on the home network, share files, use Media extenders, etc.  In short, totaly disabling all the advantages of having a home network.   Quite a solution!  I have a better idea.  How about Verizon fixing it on their end, because that is where the problem resides.  In short it can't be fixed on our home PC's, because the problem is not on our home PC's.
