Experiencing the same issues as others in DFW, TX.
I setup Cynaogenmod for wifi tether to my T-mobile account via HSPA+ connect same machine to the newly created wifi, and I can stream 1080p without much hesitation or buffering. Friends on other providers have had no issues.
My curiousity has me wondering if this is some stab at Fios since Google Fiber is rolling out more?
Suggested firewall rules didn't seem to do much for me.
Some HTTP Sniffing dumps of Youtubes content servers, serving the actual video data when on Fios:

YouTube's connection to the Verizon network. Do you expect Verizon to open an unlimited bandwith pipe just so their millions of customers can stream YouTube. Yea perhaps YouTube needs to work out their routing and connection issues with Verizon, and I can be sure it is a money issue.
My last post in this thread.

I'm having the same issue. Just got Verizon. SpeedTest is giving me 55+, but YouTube is unwatchable. Was great when we had some friends over and we wanted to show eachother some YouTube videos. Will be cancelling shortly if this doesn't improve.

"It looks like this is a long running issue and Verizon is putting the blame on Google, but there's no evidence that anyone at Google is looking at this."
Discussion on the same topic on Google's product forums:

A visual traceroute to the content (CDN) server ( http://r3---sn-hp576m7k.c.youtube.com/ ) I posted previously. **bleep**, why am I routing to Netherlands?
...and I found this which may be the root cause:

After 3 Hours with Verizon Tech, trying Multiple DNS & sending signals to the Router.
I Was Left with this Message....
*******(18:49:53): Unfortunately, I do not see any issue from verizon side
*******(18:50:08): I have completed all the test and check the line is working fine
*******(18:50:28): I suggest you to try after sometime or with any other computer
So, Whos Problem is it ??

So, I'm finally just resorting to a proxy.
Not really a permenant fix, but should help, I wouldn't recommend signing in to youtube through it but rather just copy/paste in the proxyfree address bar, make sure your using a good close location.
Loading the same 1080p video up through youtube = dirt slow, through the proxy = no problems!
This. is. just. lame!

Add me to the long list of people having the same issues. I've tried some fixes, but nothing worked.
If this keeps up I'm paying my early termination fee and switching. Its sad Verizon just continues to let this happen. People pay good money for their internet and shouldn't have to deal with this issue.
