We just got Fios internet this past weekend with the middle package 25mb download 15 mb upload. First issue, We have 4 pc's in the house. The only pc that gets the full download speed is the one right next to the router but that machine only gets 1/3 the upload speed. The 2nd issue is the pc's upstairs they get less then 1/2 the download speed and 1/3 the upload speed. How can we go about fixing this problem?? All pc's are running windows xp or vista ultimate.

Have you run the FIOS Optimizer on the PCs and Laptops:

Are they connected with a wired connection to the router or wireless ?

Wireless devices will have overhead in the connection and their speed will normally be lower than what you subscribe to.

What Operating System and Browser are you using ?

I believe that it will only run under Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Hey Brian, I ran the optimizer and now im getting worse speeds 1/5 of the dl and maybe 1/10th of the upload speed from speakesy. From the verizon router i have a cable running upstairs into a 10/100/1000 switch which is then plugged into the pc with the slow connection. The pc is running vista ultimate 64. Any idea's??

just to start isolating, have one computer directly connected to the verizon router. So that there are no intermediate devices. Just internet, router, computer.

Second get some baseline readings.  run a speed test at several locations, dont just use one. Sometimes you can get inaccurate results from just one.

www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

www.speedtest.net

www.verizon.net/speedtest

http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Make sure that you run the test to a location near you (dont run a test to California if you are in NY for example)

Once you have those results post here and we will then take the next step.

I ran a long cable from router to the pc upstairs. Getting 25mb down and 10 to 22mb upload depending on site. I figured out the problem lies in the cable an electrition  routed to the upstairs  he put on the proper rj 45 connecter downstairs (the cable going into the router) But he just left cut off cable upstairs and gave us a box to splice and connect ourselves. After talking to some people the box he gave us is just a normal telecommunications box not even cat 5e!!!! so im gonna redo the box with a snap-in and hope this fixes it all 🙂
