Laptop can't connect with wireless

I think I'm doing everything right, but can't get my new laptop to connect to the Internet.  The message I get is that the network did not assign a network address to the computer.  The network definitely shows up in the list of networks. Any ideas?

Thanks

Check if DHCP is enabled on your wireless router.

Try this:

1. Connect your laptop to the router directly on one of the lan ports using ethernet cable.

2. Do ipconfig command on the command prompt and see what you get.

Let me know what you get and I will guide you further.

Did it ask your for the network key when you tried to connect to the network? If you are using the Verizon supplied Actiontec router, it should have asked and if so the network key is printed on the router as the WEP key. If you type that in when you try to connect to the network it should connect properly.
