MSN will not install !!!!!!

I have Verizon fios with Msn premium, or at least I'm supposed too, I can not get the msn software to install. Awhile back I had some

problem with my msn so I uninstalled it, figuring I would go to the website and just re download it. No such luck, I went to the website I was

told to go to, but when it got to the install msn software it stops and an error screen pops up saying , sorry it's seems you have been

disconnected from the internet, try again. If the problem persists contact customer service. I called fios tech support and they tried to solve

the problem, (4 hrs). They had no clue, and did everything I tried to do to solve it. They even got in touch with msn and they said it was

because of the  virus software. I turned it off and still nothing. The msn software is acting like I was on dial up. I definitely went to the right

website. The tech did the same thing. NOTHING. Please does anyone have any other ideas? I have been at this for months. The funny

thing is that the tech guy put in a trouble ticket with msn and said he would call back within the next couple of days, but he never did. That was a couple of months ago. Guess they couldn't figure it out either. Thanks

Did you ever resolve this problem?   Mine was originally working, then it disappeared altogether and now I can't send or get e-mails on msn premium without signing onto msn hotmail through internet explorer.  Thanks.

Did anyone try this link?

http://www.verizon.net/micro/betterway/

You will need your Verizon online account email and password. I have noticed that FIOS does not show MSN as an option. I have had it since I upgraded from DSL. The link can be found from the broadband internet support page. Here is the link I have found. MSN is currently running with  Vista 64 bit on FIOS.

Or here if you have a MSN Email address and Premium account password.

Amazingly, I decided to try one more time, just for the heck of it . When the download started It got to the part of the

where Verizon gives you the option to do a typical installation or a custom install. So I checked custom . It showed

items already installed like acrobat reader, which I already have, also set up Verizon mail with outlook express and

Verizon help and support and one other thing I can't remember, anyway, I omitted the outlook express and help and

support options because I don't care about either of them. Then I hit next to continue. It went through the next steps

up to the install msn software, this is usually where it stops and won't let me go any **bleep**her, Lo and behold it kept going

and installed the msn. Smiley Surprised I don't know if it is because I omitted the two options, but it worked. I got msn

back. All the other times I tried I did the typical install, and it wouldn't go any **bleep**her. So, I am very happy now and maybe

if anybody has this problem it will help them.   Thanks all.

When I go on that website to try to reinstall my msn premium software (I can't open email attachments anymore), it takes me to a blank verizon page and never downloads the software.  Can you still get msn premium?

thanks for any help!

Here's the story based on my last conversations with Verizon + MSN.

Verizon is no longer offering msn.com as an option to new subscribers.   That's the reason that you can't download it anymore from their website.   They now offer Windows Live as the microsoft option.   You can sign up on line with Windows Live and get a free hotmail account and also use your msn.com e-mail address -- for now, anyhow.  The problem is you can't archive e-mails or get to your favorites on the hotmail site.   If you call verizon internet service all you can get is minimal help, although I did get a nice technician who helped me out by rebooting for me and downloading the msn software directly from an msn account that is available only to the Verizon technicians.   But that still didn't resolve the problem of not being able to get into my settings so he set me up with a technician at msnOf course, that gave me a litany of people to deal with.   When you call msn, you will get a person whose only function is to figure out who to direct you to and what kind of service you are entitled to.    Because I have a business account, I got redirected to another person, with exactly the same function in the business section.   And yada, yada, yadaThey really only want to do things for people who pay for extra tech service contracts. After much back and forth with msn techs, I was finally able to upload my e-mails using the "Mail and More" icon on my msn.com account.   Alasit worked for about an hour and the e-mails stopped loading again.

The real problem is that msn will only provide minimal tech service to verizon customers because it's a limited service accountBasically, the contract between Verizon and MSN is bare bones and provides very minimal tech serviceEveryone wants to know immediately whether you have their service contract that costs additional moneyVerizon says they can't do anything to help with the msn issues and msn says they won't do much if you don't have a service contract.   It's catch-22

What's more infuriating is that everyone is very nice at both companies but the wait is interminableI get all kinds of follow up calls from nice people at Verizon making sure that everything is ok -- only to tell them that it's not and what's involved in getting it to be ok is impossibleTo solve this last time, I spent more than 6 hours on the phone on a weekday, which I can't normally do.   When my msn.com e-mails disappeared again within an hour after it started working, I just couldn't cope with another 6 hours and a slew of people at msn whose accents I couldn't understand on the phone.    I've bascially resorted to signing onto msn.com from firefox or windows live and read and send e-mails with msn thru hotmail.    It doesn't solve the problem of not being able to pick up your msn account settings, favorites and e-mails with the "Mail & More" icon..    What angers me is that this all only started when I switched to FIOS -- so for something that is supposed to be better it's a pain in the a.   The real skinny I heard from one of the techs is that microsoft is planning to phase out msn.com and stick with windows live in the future to compete more directly with Mac.   (windows allegedly more synonymous with PC than msn) Doesn't help for nowIf I hadn't had an msn.com e-mail address for close to 10 years, I wouldn't care & I'd just use another ISP.

From my answer, I suspect that you can get an idea of how frustrating this has been.

Hope this helps.

Good Luck!

My story is pretty much the same as mn.  My use of MSN goes back about 10 years ago when Bill Gates tried to compete with AOL.  Microsoft offered an instant rebate for anyone who signed a contract with the old MSN dial up service.  In my case I signed up for 3 years and received an instant $400.00 rebate for stuff I purchased at Best Buy.  After my contract expired (and having teenage kids and 1 phone line) I had Verizon with DSL installed in my house (it was cheaper than a second phone line not to mention a huge 768 KB/s connection speed).  The Verizon with DSL came bundled with MSN Premium so I was able to keep my email address- which was important to me.

In July of 2007 FIOS was offered in my area so I jumped on the 5 MB/s package with the television also.  A couple of months after this I moved and when I tried to sign in on my MSN account it wouldn’t work.  I contacted Verizon and they told me I needed to talk to MSN.  I called MSN and they told me I needed to talk to Verizon.  I re-called Verizon and a tech guy started looking into my account and realized that for some reason the account had reverted back to my original DSL account (including credit card and such).  He made some changes and everything started working fine again.  In April 2008 I moved again and had the same problem trying to login to my MSN account.  I contacted Verizon and after bouncing around to various departments my MSN was once again fixed.  On 2/5/2009 I had my service transferred to a new address (yes, I have moved quite a bit lately) and when I tried to sign on to MSN Premium I had a dialog box pop up that said my account was no longer valid and I needed to contact customer support.  It went on to say that MSN would shut down in 5 minutes or when I clicked the okay button.  So, I called Verizon thinking this would be just another quick (?) fix on their part.  After bouncing around to various departments again I was told that they no longer offered MSN Premium as an option.  I asked the tech guy when this started and was told it had been that way for over a year.  Since I had gone through this ordeal only 9 months previous to this I was a little confused.  Anyway, I accepted his explanation and resolved myself to using the new MSN Live.  Well, after the first week I must say I am very disappointed.  I liked the old MSN Explorer a heck of a lot more than using the new MSN Live.  First of all, it’s just Internet Explorer.  Nothing special.  Not to mention, the default settings do not save any of the emails you send.  You have to go in and set this up.  Same as when you go through Verizon Central and check your Verizon email.  Before I could open my MSN Explorer and I could read both my MSN email and Verizon email.  Not anymore.  I have to go through both websites to check my email.  Also, the Verizon Central website “times out” and you have to sign back in every so often.  My take on this is that MSN Premium was a cost factor where MSN Live is a free service.  I could always check my MSN email by just signing into the Hotmail link on the msn.com website.  Verizon Central doesn’t appear to have the ability to check other email addresses like MSN Explorer.  It doesn’t have the cool extras like McAfee Anti Virus, Encarta, Parental Controls, Photo Sharing, and so much more.  The funny thing is- when I sign on to MSN Live and go to my account it still shows my old billing info and address.  Weird!  There doesn’t seem to be a way for me to change this unless I want to pay for this “free” service.  I sure wish I could go back to using the MSN Premium!  I told a buddy of mine that he could save $10.00 a month and boost his connection speed to the new 20 MB/s plan, however he would lose his MSN Explorer (his is still working).  I wish someone from Verizon would reply to these postings and explain to all of us why we still can’t use MSN Explorer!

Thanks, Golfdude.   You know a lot more than I do -- that's for sure.    I'm not even sure if you can get  MSN Premium directly through MSN anymore even if I paid for it.   It's coordinating it with Verizon that's the bigger problem, too. It was also suggested to me that I forward all my msn e-mails to verizon.net in order to store them and have a records of what I sent but, again, the amount of time that takes is infuriating.    I don't know why I'm paying for Verizon internet service that's pointless.   I've taken to sending e-mails that are important from a completely separate Outlook account in my office.   But that's much of an option for most people.   I agree that Verizon should respond to these blogs and offer a solution of some kind.  There's apparently not enough of us for them to care.   Thanks for your missive, though.  mn
