Mail sent via verizon.net not being received

I use my gmail account for sending and receiving email in Outlook 2007. I use gmail's smtp settings for sending email. For some reason when I send from the place where I work -- over a Verizon network -- people do not receive my emails and I receive no error or other message indicating that it was not sent out. Thus, I am left assuming the message was sent correctly and will be received. However, people with Verizon.net email addresses do not receive my messages. This only occurs when I send from work (a Verizon customer) to verizon.net email addresses. Could it be because I am sending from my gmail account?

If your mail got turned back at some point, you should get a message that it was returned. Since you haven't seen any such messages, it is logical to assume it reached Verizon. My guess is that it got caught by Verizon's SPAM detector.

You can ask the recipients to verify this by having them reconfigure their Verizon mail from www.verizon.net to place the detected spam into a special folder, SPAM DETECTOR, which can be examined online at www.verizon.net . Once the setting has been changed, re-send the mail and see if ends up in the SPAM DETECTOR folder.

The normal action by Verizon's SPAM filter on incoming messages it traps, is to simply throw them away, so the recipient has no idea the mail was ever sent. You must opt in to get these message placed in the SPAM DETECTOR folder. From there you can mark messages as 'Not Junk', and they will then be delivered with the other mail.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
