Mid-Atlantic Fios Problems?

I awoke this morning to find my internet connection spotty as to what sites are working.  This Verizon site works perfectly.  So does Amazon, Yelp and my remote work email.  Cnet is sluggish.  Washingtonpost.com doesn't really work at all.  Huffington Post doesn't even load and WTOP news is sluggish.  I cannot connect to the iTunes store on my iPod Touch, but can connect to the Amazon and Ebay Apps just fine.  Heck, I am streaming Pandora on it right now.  I've tried the websites on more than one computer and on the iPod's Safari app.  I've also tried sites on both Firefox and Chrome.

The Washington Post site seems to work just fine on my Verizon cell phone, so it doesn't appear to be a site specific problem.

I live Northern VA.  Anyone else in the area experiencing this today? Seeing I am working from home today, and probably tomorrow...I would like to not worry if I am going to have a internet problem.

I'm also in N. VA.  Both my wife and daughter called me at work today to tell me they could not access Hotmail and Facebook from home.  They could navigate to the login screen, but could not get logged in.  I had no problem access both their Hotmail and Facebook accounts from work.  Started to wonder if it has something to do with accessing secure sites, but I'll have to take a closer look when I get home.

Also, just to add, similar behavior on all 3 computers:

  • wired desktop running XP
  • wired desktop running Vista
  • wireless laptop running Windows 7

I'm in Leesburg, VA started having the same issues this morning.   I called Verizon tech support and they stated the problem was with my Mac.  I informed them I was having the same issues with my Windows PC -- then she said they were having network problems.  So that call was a complete waste of time.  I can access some sites ie: Google, Yahoo, Verizon.  But if I try to access CNN, ESPN, FOX News, Apple, Facebook etc. the page will not load.  I can use my iPhone and access the mobile versions of those sites -- but not the full version. So I do not think it's a secure site issue.  But then again, I'm not an expert on those type of issues.  But I can confirm I am having the problems you've described.

I am in Leesburg as well and am using PCs running XP Pro and are connected wirelessly.

As far as secure sites, I have successfully accessed my company's email and my government email accounts.  Fortunately those work-related sites still work, or else I would be really ripping my hair out.

I can also confirm issues with Hotmail.

I thought about calling Verizon as well, but figured it would be frusturatingly fruitless or would result in me getting charged for some service call.  Maybe I should call just to let them know this isn't a problem limited to someone with a Mac.  How often do you get that excuse by the way?  "It must be your Mac" is an easy way out in the PC-centric world.

I am in Fredericksburg, VA and seeing the same issues. Having trouble connecting to certain sites. CNet, Hotmail/Windows Live/Facebook. I assume this is related to a bad connection to a certain route related to Verizon's network. Rather annoying as I've issolated that it's not a wireless issue and when connected directly to my Actiontec router via LAN connection I am experiencing the same issues. So no, you all are not alone. I'm going to call Verizon right now to add another log to this odd behavior.

It sounds like a routing issue. We had the same problem in Oregon a couple of years ago. I ended up calling Fios support and eventually they put in a ticket for the Network admin. It took a day and a half to get fixed. The best way to get support is the live chat option on the contact us page. The CSR's there seem to be better trained than the random ones you get when you call in.

I just confirmed with my friend at verizon tech support that there is a routing problem in the VA area. They are aware of it and are working to get it corrected. He says several of their systems were damaged in the recent snow storm and the backup systems are a little overburdened. He says the engineers are estimating a repair time of about 2am tomorrow morning. Until then the internet will be spotty.

Mine seems to becoming spotty rather than non-existent for some sites.  I am not surprised the snow may have knocked some things out.

I figured. It's not surprising. Yet there is definitely an intermittent connectivity issue. Guess we'll just have to let it ride the course. Well, can't procrastinate in shoveling the driveway anymore! LOL
