Hi -

 

I had Verizon Fios installed yesterday and the wireless router was plugged into an outlet strip

with 12 other outlets.

 

Would I be able to quickly unplug it and plug into a designated wall outlet without it

disrupting all of the settings on our computers, TVs and phones?

 

Having to leave the complete strip on 24/7 is not a good situation due to the fact that it keeps power running on some devices that I'd normally shut off after use but require the strip to be shut off.

you can move the power outlet without a problem.  the slight interruption in service will only be noticeable to the pc's and that shouldn't be more than 2 minutes down time,   the tv's likely won't notice the difference unless someone is watching VOD or trying to do widgets while you are moving the power outlet.

There is absolutely not problem with unplugging the router and moving it to a different outlet.   Your computers will obviously notice the outage, but should recover just fine.   Worst case, reboot the computer and it'll come back.

 

One modification to your proposed procedure however -- don't do it too "quickly".   A "blip" might confuse the router more so that just having it reboot normally.  Just unplug the router. take your time and move your power cords, and then plug it back in again and give it a few minutes to come back online.  

 

As was mentioned, your computers won't be able to get to the internet while your router is rebooting and VOD or remote DVR services may be disrupted if your using them while moving the router -- so best to do when no one else is using the computers, TV's, etc.

Thank you!

 

I did unplug it and move to a dedicated outlet after I heard from Verizon tech support

that it would be okay as long as a 'hard reset' was not done.

Hard reset has nothing to do with it... but as long as you're up and running, all is good.
