I have noticed my devices lose their Verizon MI424WR router and Internet connection (wired and wireless alike) for some time now (months) on a regular basis. Sometimes multiple times a day and at different times of the day. You typically have to be actively using a device to notice these events. I have one client that will display an "Internet Connection Restored" message until I return to view it and I can see that this happens quite frequently overnight when there is minimal Internet usage. During a recent "outage" I quickly ran to the router to find it was in the process of rebooting, however, I did not perform any direct actions (e.g., cycling the power or applying admin config changes) that would have caused it.
What is/could be the cause of this? Is Verizon support pushing silent router maintenance updates that require resets? Am I exceeding the maximum TCP connections the firmware will allow before faulting to reboot? I require high availability and uninterrupted connections and would prefer to know the routers limitations or when any remote automated maintenance requiring resets will be occurring if that is in fact the cause.

My router routinely runs for months between resets, which are caused by me needing to move a cable or a similar. Only once did I notice a reset due to a Verizon update, and that was when the firmware was updated a year or so ago.
You can check the router's up time on the "system monitoring" web page. This will let you know when the last reset occurred.
You should not see resets unless you cause them. The symptoms you describe are not typical. You might need a new router. If you think so, contact Verizon support.
Good Luck.

I recently got FiOS and have the same router (Rev. I) and had the same issue starting when it was installed. It was rebooting every 3 hours or so.
I'm 99% sure that turning off UPnP on my security DVR resolved it. See if you have anything with UPnP enabled.

So you are suggesting to disable UPnP on the network endpoint/host versus the router? Is there another message post link or step by step procedures you can provide to implement your suggestion? Thank you!

Login to the router http://192.168.1.1 from any web browser, (the user name should be admin & the password should be on a label attached to the router. Then click this link http://192.168.1.1/index.cgi?active_page=900 and uncheck all boxes, apply - logout.

I noticed the same thing that my Verizon MI424WR.
This Router got installed a week ago when I ordered the FiOS triple play.
I do not have any DVR in my network. Only two cable boxes, PCs, iPad connections.
I mainly use the connection for work (Remote desktop, ssh, telnet etc)
I noticed the reboot at least twice in the last 3 days that the router reboot by itself while I was online.
Don't know how many more times it rebooted while I was not watching.
Here is the Router information:
Firmware Version: | 40.21.10.2 |
Model Name: | MI424WR-GEN3I |
Hardware Version: | I |
thanks!

I was living with it, but it has started to be a pain since I installed a NEST thermostat for the remote control feature. I have my SSID broadcasting disabled as a security hardening measure. But my NEST thermostat doesn't reconnect after the connection has dropped and reset becasue it can not find the SSID. I have to reenter the information to have it connect.
The router is sitting on my desktop so all I have to do is look over and see that that the internet connection light has gone blank, then will be amber, then green then flashing green.
If anyone has any success at finding out why thats happens. Please let me know.

Re: the response by JOSEm441 - that should resolve one of the causes of the unexpected reboot. I had this issue some time ago, and this fixed it.
Eventually, I figured out that the problem was being caused by one of the devices that I was using - a CCTV DVR. I used port forwarding for that device, and used the DNS settings as 192.168.1.1 (instead of Google's DNS servers), and then re-enabled uPNP. All is well now.
@Security_advoc8 - you may want to disconnect all devices from the router, and add devices back one by one to figure out what device is causing the reboot. If, with all devices disconnected, your router reboots, you know that the router is faulty. If the reboot is caused after you add a specific device, you will need to check all DNS settings on that device (and if that device needs access FROM the WAN, use approriate port forwarding).
