My computer has become painfully slow since installing FIOS.

I had FIOS Internet/TV/Phone installed about a month ago and since then my whole computer, not just the internet, has slowed to a crawl. I am running Windows XP and  I'm definitely not getting the internet speed that I'm paying for 35/25, but It take 5-10 minutes to boot up or shut down and switching between programs or trying to do something within a program takes forever.  I have run antivirus, adaware & spybot, but nothing seems to help.

I would try to uninstall all of those programs.  They are not needed to run and use FIOS.  For the one you cant close, can you uninstall it as well?

Since FIOS was installed was any program installed as a result of the installation?

There were several things installed as part of the installation.  Verizon Service Point, InHomeAgent.  There is also a program called MCCITrayApp which doesn't closed when I try to shut down.  I always get an error message for that one.

The first thing I would do is to run the windows task manager (just hit Cntrl-Alt-Delete) while the system is running, and task manager will come up. Look at the processes, and see where all the CPU time is going. That task is likely to be the culrprit.

The other step is to run Verizon (or someone else's) high speed optimizer to make sure you have large enough, and enough buffers to suppor the speed you have.

One other thing to do is to run Argonne National Laboratory speed test, which is both a speed test and connection analyser, and see if there are any problems with your network connections. Here is the link to the test:

Good luck

Thanks for your help.  I uninstalled Verizon Service Point and Verizon Help & Support and that solved the problem.  The MCCITrayApp was the program using up all my resources and it was part of Verizon Help & Support.  Running smoothly now and my computer no longer sounds like it's going to explode Smiley Happy
