The router is not responsible for Geolocation and doesn't really have a solid ability to do so itself. Geolocation on the Internet is a guess based on some former knowledge of where an IP Address is. Some services, especially streaming and mapping apps on mobile devices like Tablets and Smartphones, have the ability to use the GPS radio built into those devices. They will often transmit your exact location back to the service, and eventually, to GeoIP databases which will update your location. This can take months. Some other apps can tell your general location by looking at nearby Wi-Fi networks. Companies like Google from time to time collect this data to help make Geolocation more accurate for Internet services.

In short: Give it time, but Geolocation is not something the G3100 is responsible for.

Just give it some time. GeoIP is less of a science and more of a guess when it comes to service. If you're having problems with streaming services in particular, contact the service's support team and ask them whether they can update their GeoIP databases for you.

When you swapped your router, you received a different IP address from Verizon. That IP address might have been used elsewhere in your area, or the country for a few years, and services still think your IP is at that "old" location. It can take weeks for services to catch on to the new location.

One thing you can do is visit https://www.maxmind.com/en/geoip-demo to see what the site shows as your GeoIP. Maxmind is a common GeoIP database provider used by many large websites. To find your IP address, use https://www.whatismyip.com/ . Once MaxMind has updated their GeoIP location, typically other services follow quickly.

I have same issue. Website keeps asking me to install geolocation plug-in on Tropiocana Casino website which I know was already installed and working. Plugged my Gateway back in and it works fine. It's the G3100.

Eagleguy:

It's not the router. Your IP address changed and a database thinks it's somewhere else.  See the excellent explination Smith6612 posted.

Also, know that you're talking to other users here.  If you want to reach Verizon, use their support chat.

How long are we talking?  It's been over 3 weeks.  IP Check shows my correct location within less than a mile.

same issue with ocean casino works fine on gateway router does not work on g3100 put old router back works fine also everytime I switched routers I got new IP addresses, geo location will work on the gateway router but does not work on the g3100 so it is def the g3100 router not the ip causing the issue.

Hi All,

Glad I found this forum because I was going crazy last night installing/uninstalling, downloaded, deleting etc.

Just want to gauge how long most of you have waited before it somehow cleared up?

Thanks
