Hello - I'm upgrading from DSL (have had it for 7 years) and copper pots to FiOS Internet (15/5) & Digital Voice a week from today.

I know there's a ton of info and advice on this forum, but if there's one piece of info or advice you can offer

to a new subscriber, what would that be. Thanks in advance. ...frank2012

HArd to keep it to one, I would say if you are gaming make sure to run a cat5 cable from the router (which has to be the ATMI424 REV I) to your gaming PC or laptop. Also if you need addition devices configured for wireless access do it yourself, The documentation that comes with the router is great, and we can help for free it you get stuck. I Was charged $55 to set up a second laptop, and It took the man 3 minutes at most!(but I got the charge reversed) . Good luck I am sure you will be happy  I am!!

Thanks Jose - I am not a gamer, but have read about using Cat5 as opposed to Coax. As of now, since I don't have FiOS TV, I may try to get the install team to run Cat5. As far as configuring additional devices for wireless, I've never had any problem with the usual setup of wireless devices, so if the router comes with an instruction book, I should be able to do it. But if not, at least I know where I can come for assistance. Thanks very much for the heads up on that!

Happy report here. Okay, so the Verizon tech arrived at 2:15 PM today and was done by 6PM. I'm up and running on both hardwired and wireless. Everything went very well. I greeted the tech with a list of questions and he happily answered all of them. I ended up with a one piece (ONT, Power Supply & battery backup all in one case) Motorola unit that was installed in my basement. The tech drilled a hole from my office floor to the basement and ran a piece of Cat5 cable as I requested since I don't have FiOS TV. He terminated the Cat5 in a wall jack where I plugged in the Verizon router. We tested everything and I was pulling 15 + down and 5+ up from a variety of speed test sites. All in all, I was very satisfied with the installation. The tech was friendly, thorough and very neat. Every aspect of the installation looks great. I still have yet to wander into the router to change the SSID and key. But I will. Thanks again to all who responded to my initial post. I will be checking back as I go. Happy 4th of July to all!
