No internet access after virus removed

MacAfee anti virus removed a Trojan (zeroaccess) after which my desktop computer lost ability to connect to the internet. MacAfee told me to contact my ISP after we did various tests that confirmed that the computer does not connect to the internet (i.e., "ping test"?).  Other computer in the house connects to FIOS internet wirelessly with no problem.  I don't think that the problem is with FIOS or the router but is due to changes in programs caused by the virus. Is this something that Verizon can help with or not? MacAfee wants to access my computer remotely to repair damage done by the virus but without internet access they can't help me.

Make sure you have no proxies.  Virus's often create proxy settings and that is usually what kills your connection.

  1. Open Internet Explorer by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Internet Explorer.

  2. Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.

  3. Click the Connections tab, and then click LAN settings.

Make sure nothing has checkmarks there.

    Afterwards,

Post back the results.   Also let us know if you are wired, or wireless
