I recently had my FIOS connection fail and the phone and home visit service guys could not diagnose the propblem. I was getting a "No PPOE connection" in the logs. The said it had to be my equipment.
I had been connected via a Peplink 30 multi-WAN router which had been operating without problems for several years. I have both FIOS and Oprimum as I need high uptime. The FIOS line was connecting via the PPOE protocal as it was origionally configures and had been in use for the many years I had it. The Optimum service uses DHCP. After much trial and error, I plugged the FIOS line into the port configured for the Optimum line and it worked.
I reconfigured the FIOS port from PPOE to DHCP and the problem was solved.
It apprears some genius has switched the FIOS protocal from PPOE to DHCP without telling anyone.

Far as I know, FIOS has never been PPOE. It was always DHCP only.
PPOE is typically used for DSL or cable modems.

They have used ppoe especially in some initial areas. They have moved most people off it.
