Not sure what's involved in switching out primary computer that gets Fios internet

I had a major service call when I first had Fiod installed, and lots of Verizon software was installed by the technician on my desktop pc that connects to the router. On the other hand, nothing was installed on my laptop, and all I have to do is plug it into the router and I get internet access. Now I plan to replace the desktop pc that was all configured by Verizon when I first got Fios, so my new desktop will have no Verizon software or settings installed. I'm wondering if I can bypass all the complexity and just plug it in like I do occasionally with the laptop, or if I have to download software from Verizon, or if a technician needs to come by again. Any help will be appreciated!

There should be no need to go installing the Verizon software into your Computer. When the tech arrives, he should have a laptop handy with him to ensure the connection is working as it should before he leaves. If he doesn't, it should be a simple matter of connecting your PC to the FiOS router. The only thing the Verizon software is really needed for is to set up an account at MyVerizon, which can be done by visiting the Verizon website anyhow. The only Verizon software you may need to run your PC would be the Verizon FiOS Optimizer. That is only if your PC isn't able to reach the speeds you're paying for.

So I guess you recommend that I call up and schedule a visit by Verizon rather than just plugging the new pc into the verizon router's ethernet port on my own and expecting that it would configure the connection itself?

Why bother with a service Call?  Particularly if you like how your Laptop works with the network

Things to install if you want

Media Manager.  https://www36.verizon.com/fiostv/web/unprotected/mediamanager.aspx?CMP=DMC-CVZ_ZZ_FT_Z_DO_N_X001

In-home agent http://www22.verizon.com/residentialhelp/inhomeagent?CMP=EMC-CONS09008 (I recommend against this software)

VISS sofware if you are paying for it.

And if you use a mail client, you will have to configure it https://www22.verizon.com/ForYourHome/VZRepair/vziha/Service.aspx?ihaweb=EmailSetup

I completely misread your post there. Sorry about that 😞

Yes, just plug the PC in and perform a speed test to ensure it's getting what it should for both the download and the upload. No need for a tech roll in that case.
