Only FIOS Internet - Can I use my Linksys E1200?

Hi,

I only have FIOS internet service, can I use my own Cisco Linksys E1200 router instead of renting one from Verizon? I read something about being able to plug my router straight into the ONT? Would I be able to do this with my router?

Thank you all in advance for the help.

As he is not doing TV service, any commercial router should work just fine.

Would just use Etherent to ONT.

Yes you can.  The question gets asked at least once a week.  Look several posts down for someone asking about using their ASUS N66U.

But more importantly why do you want to use your Linksys E1200?    It is an outdated piece of equipment and may not be capable of delivering the bandwidth you are paying for.

I think the OP wants to avoid the rental fee.  In that case, I suggest the OP purchase a Verizon router.

The Actiontec rev I is a decent single band 802.11n WiFi router and is available for $75 here:

Used routers can be found on eBay for less.  I suggest the OP stay away from the older routers.  Stick with a Rev I.

Enjoy.
