Ping Spike while playing MMO

Message 1 of 5

This issue started a week ago. I play this mmo called gw2 which severs are located in Dallas Texas. When i am in game it seems my ping spikes any where from 70 to 500 etc while in populated areas and also in activity. ( I have Fios 25/25) This was the first time this ever occured so I did a check up. Tested my Ping to a server in Dallas texas ( i am in california) and my ping was 40 with no packet loss at 0 percent. So i am wondering what is going on? I do remember a week ago i had to pull the telcom battery plug that goes on that black verizon charger or what ever it is for a few min to paint over the wall. Should i contact verizon support and have a tech come over? or should  i contact Gw2 the mmo I am playing?

Check with the game provider first to see if they are having any issues with their servers or routes that are known for Verizon users. Additionally, you may want to run an extended ping test to see if latency is spiking only in specific times of the day or at night. For example: ping 4.2.2.2 -t will do a continuous ping. From there, you hit Ctrl + C to stop the ping test, which will give you a result of your minimum, average, maximum latencies, and your packet loss.

Verizon Fios Network Team seems not to care

-I have been getting high ping spikes in a MMO called Guild Wars 2 since 3 to 2 weeks ago. I conducted a trace route and relayed the message to the network team multiple times. Sending them multiple traceroutes showing where the packetloss on their severs is happening and yet they seem to drag it on asking for more information when i already game them the same info.

ps i have also checked with the game network gms and its not on there end, we did multiple tests and it is indeed verizons problem.

I have had the same problem for the last few weeks, it is 100% VERIZON. If you do a traceroute for the Guild Wars 2 servers you can see that they are sending the packets to TELIA IN EUROPE and then back to TEXAS....

Telia is a European company, yes. Verizon is not sending your traffic to Europe and back. That is impossible to do and have 45ms latency to the endpoint...
