I have a MI424WR router - I would like to connect my printer directly to the router (instead of to a computer) so it can be used by laptops with wireless cards. Is there a utility softwrae that I need to make the connection similar to D-link's USB connection utility?

The ActionTec does not directly have that functionality for USB devices. You can purchase an item such as one of the following which will enable you to connect your USB printer to an open ethernet port on your router. Pay attention to support OS and printers (listed by device if it applies) to make sure you get one which will work with your PC's.
