Currently building a new home and have cat5e installed. Will be using Verizon Fios, 500mps, their router / wifi, but need recommendations on a swich for the 16 ports. Don't want to slow down the speed by buying a slow switch.

Finally! Let me just start by saying, thank you for wiring the house. I honestly cannot understand why so many people oversee the opportunity to run cable when remodeling or building from scratch.
I would personally reccomend TP-Link. I've been using this switch from the first day that I've had FiOS, and its been amazing. http://a.co/7KVgezy.
If you don't mind me asking, what router were you planning on using? While your at it running cable, I'd strongly suggest you have a line run to somewhere in the middle of the house in the ceiling, and look into one of these unifi access points to handle your wireless. Their enterprise grade units that are pretty simple to setup, and they also don't have too high of a price tag like your usual "enterprise grade" equipment. They would also be crazy fast, so you'd get the most out of your FiOS install even over wireless: http://a.co/hjJwsym

I do not endorse eBay but on the basis of the article this will give you a pretty good idea. You can search CNET http://www.cnet.com and they have articles which may be more up to date.
to be honest I don't have more than 6 hard wired LAN connections so a switch is overkill in our home. 24 devices use wifi with our own router, not Verizon's.
Good Luck

I was planning to use the Verizon provided router/wifi - Fioa Quantum Gateway?
