Reformatted computer to existing FIOS service

    Hello. I hope I am not going to be sounding like a "dummy" or be asking a question that has been answered a thousand timesearlier, but I'm gonna try. I have to restore my HP Compaq Presario to it's original state.

    I have been using FIOS internet for about 3 years on this computer and I'm doing a complete system recovery on this computer as soon as I can. This is due to a severe infection with something that redirects me every time I do a search, with any browser.

   After the reformat is done all software, including Verizon's FIOS software,  will be gone from my computer. How do I reconnect my now "fresh" computer to FIOS internet? Thank you for any help you can give...

Are you connecting via a wired or wireless connection?

If you are connecting via a wired connection you should be able to get online right away assuming the network drivers are loaded upon restore.

   Thanks for the reply Jim. It is a wired router. I've been using it since we started with FIOS. I do have my daughter's lap top using a wireless connection to the router though. The only thing that shouldn't be in the reformatted computer is whatever the installer did to the computer to allow us to use FIOS. I know "nothing" about settings...

   If the "network drivers" are something the installer had to install I may be in trouble. If they were something that were on the computer to begin with...they should be there again when I reformat. As you can probably tell, I am a much better brain surgeon than I am a computer technician...

Darryl,

There is no need to install any Verizon software on your workstation.  As long as your system restore installs the network dirvers then you should be fine.  Windows may require you to run a network setup wizzard from the control panel just to get things rolling, but that should be it.  As for the wireless connection to the laptop, all of the relevant settings are stored in the router and the laptop, so nothing will change.  Drop us another line if you have trouble getting the Compaq back online, and be sure to include the version of Windows you are running.

There isn't any FiOS software that you need to have installed to connect to the internet. Just like any other internet connection, it's plug and play.

ekem015 and astro_guy...Thanks for the confidence building comments. Lord knows I need some...LOL...I'm going to start the reformat now and hopefully get back online soon. I'll let you all know if I meet with any success. Thank you all for the help...See you all soon.......I hope...

...Apparently setting up FIOS is the least of my problems...I can't even reformat my hard drive...I tried restoring from XP, from the desk top and from the recovery disks I made when I bought the computer...Nothing works...Thanks for the help anyway. Looks like this one is trash...

Darryl,

You can't reformat the system drive you've booted from.  Try booting from the Windows XP media you received with your Compaq.  You should be able to format the C drive from there.  Good luck!

...Bob...I bought this computer in 2005. It did NOT come with any recovery media at all. HP shipped these with what they called a "Recovery Partition" installed in the computer. In order for me to have a means of reformatting if that partition went bad, I had to burn a series of 10 CD's as my backup recovery media. I did that the day I bought the computer. I placed them in a nice dark, humidity controlled area...my bedroom ...LMAO. I tried these disks as my last resort. It didn't work. I tried from the desktop where you pull up the recovery screen by hitting F10 repeatedly and also by using the esc key at initial startup. None of these methods worked. I then tried the 10 recovery disks I burned to the same result. I get a blue screen which says:

STOP: C000021{Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process System Prrocess terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x000034. (0X00000000  0X00000000)

The System Has Benn Shut Down.

This is way off topic to Verizon FIOS related but let me share something with you. 

I would call HP/Compaq and let them know what happened.  I paid for the recovery disks to be sent ($20) and when the disks arrived I received a notice upon installation indicated that I'm not allowed to install these disks on this PC.

As it turns out there is embedded software in the motherboard of the PC that instructs the recovery what is supposed to be installed on the PC.  For me that was lost from the Motherboard and I returned the desktop to HP for them to reprogram the motherboard.  They did this at no charge to me even though the PC is like 3-4 years old.

If you don't mind dealing with a chat system you can discuss your problem with them and see what they say.  The chat should be no cost as well.
