Resetting my Router

I'm just making sure that if I hit the reset button on my router I don't have to put any settings into my router after its back up like a username or password (like DSL).

The tech who setup my router didn't give me the password and I have tried all the "defaults" that I have found on this board.

thanks cliff

Cliff,

Since you do not identify what brand of router you have, it is difficult to give you a definite answer. But if you have the ActionTec router, resetting the router will result in the login name and password being set back to "admin" and "password" (both lower case). You will be required to change the login info the first time you log in after the reset.

Note: Again, for the ActionTec router, most installers change the login password to "password1" during install, at least they do from what I have read. yours may have chosen something else, and should have told you what it was.

I don't know whether the above information applies to the other router Verizon uses, the name of which escapes me at the moment.

Hope this helps.

You should be ok just hitting the reset.  The login and password are set so you can access the router's menu.  When you reset it and login to the router it will ask you to set a new user name and password.

I saw that post and had no idea what that was referring to.  After resetting the router the deafult user name is: admin  and the deafult password is:  password

If you are reffering to this post.

http://forums.verizon.com/vrzn/board/message?board.id=FiOS_Internet&thread.id=2362

I reset the router and had no problem resetting the password and gaining access to the confog page.

The problem is after the reset the router has no connection to the internet.
