My plan is 5Mb/s upload and 20Mb download, this is my result as of July 16, 2009

Download: 7.28Mb/s and Upload: 3.80Mb/s (http://www.speedtest.net/result/519070275.png)

Anybody has the same issue with this kind of connection speed?

find the verizon FiOS 'Optimizer' on the website if you are using a PC, or any one of a number of other good ones are available out there.  BUT IF YOU ARE USING A MAC, you must use the 'broadbandtuner' located at appledotcom.  HOWEVER, if you are using Vista, you need to go to microsoftdotcom, under support, and search for 'vista and Verizon fios' and there is a patch available from MS to fix the Vista issues.

Thanks for respond.

MTU and other settings on my system was optimized. However, without changing anything on my system, the test is much better today:

18Mb/s for download and 4Mb/s for upload. Not bad. http://www.speedtest.net/result/519782614.png

Several of the speed test sites have been having issues lately. Giving inaccurate speedtest results.

Test at several locations to see if it is a problem with the site you are on.

www.speedtest.net

www.speakeasy.net/speedtest

http://myspeed.visualware.com/

http://speedtest.verizon.net

I personally use speedtest.net but for the last couple of weeks I have not been getting accurate results from them on a consistant basis, speakeasy has been better but its still not consistant. Verizon has theirs but I never get good results from that. Only visualware has been consistantly good recently. Try several and see what happens.

I had the same issue with speedtest.net where my results were about half of my 20/5 plan.  I would even get that when I was hard wired to the router.  I always used my default server location which was Frederick Maryland.  Just for the heck of it I tried a different location and got the results that I expected with both wireless and wired.  I tried multiple sites within speedtest.net and received variable results.  I tried a few other speed test sites and some were as expected but some showed a slow speed.

Bottom line is I found the server that gave me good results and I will always run that test first whether it is correct or not!

Faulty servers... nahh, must be your part of the country.  Speedtest.net has been fine for at least several weeks.  Here in the Metro Washington DC area I have had pretty consistent results for my 50/20 speeds.  I regularly use both the Ashburn, VA and Washington, DC servers with almost the same results.

Perhaps the poster is pinging a server too far away for an accurate reading?

Thanks for the links, folks. Getting 26 DL and 20 UL on my recently installed FIOS.

Far superior, obviously, to DSL.
