I am currently working downstairs so I can connect my work station directly to the router with a long cable. It is not ideal and seeing as I may be home for quite a bit longer, I would like to move upstairs. I purchased the TP-Link av600 powerline wifi extender a few months back since the wifi was lacking upstairs. Would I be able to plug into that?

People report powerline adapters to be hit or miss, but worth a try if you have them. As long as you have newer electrical wiring you should be fine. Sometimes older wiring can be an issue.
