Should I expect a smooth installation?

Ok! I'm on Comcast but is getting the FIOS Double Play (35/35 internet & phone) installation in a few days. My home is using coax cables for connections and I saw at

https://my.verizon.com/whatsnext/portlets/install/videoPopup.jsp?videoType=House

that FIOS can use the same coax cables that I've been using for my digital tv and cable internet services. Does it work for everyone? How does the coax will actually be connecting to? The ONT? I'm I safe to assume that with the ONT being outside, the coax cable that is connected to my old cable company connector that runs from the distribution unit to my home can just be put into the ONT? Then like magic I have a FIOS ready home without actual new wiring? And I can just place the internet modem or whatever the device that hook the coax cable to for me to get the internet wherever I want in my house? Is the internet modem or whatever the device from Verizons is a router where I can connect my many computers?

It's not clear from your post if you're keeping Comcast for TV since you're only getting only FIOS internet and phone.

If you're keeping Comcast for TV, FIOS internet can coexist on the coax since it uses frequencies above the cable TV band.

If you're not keeping Comcast for TV, the VZ tech will disconnect the old feed from Comcast from your main splitter.  THe ONT and the Actiontec router will both be connected to your main splitter.  If you decide to add FIOS TV, the STBs will be fed from the main plitter using your existing coax.

I'm not keeping my Comcast service once FIOS is installed. Why is this unclear from my post I wonder?

Based on our previous experience and several friends and relatives, it should be a smooth experience,

in my opinion. The installers are well trained and know what needs to be done.

  Good luck!

To the OP, it's simply not clear if you had TV, Internet, and Phone from Comcast or just Internet and Phone.   What the person answer said essentially is if you're ditching Comcast altogether (because you don't have TV from them either), then there is defnitely no problem -- the tech will simply disconnect the cable at the source point where it enters your home from Comcast and connect it instead to Verizon.  Simple.

If you have Comcast TV and are retaining it, then it's possible for both to co-exist since you're not getting TV from Verizon, but the tech needs to be aware of this special circumstance so that they don't disconnect Comcast.

Likewise, when you terminate your Comcast service, keep a careful eye on the Comcast employee that comes out to do the disconnect to make sure they don't touch your new Verizon installation and remove the connection to that service (I've seen these folks -- not just Comcast -- actually disconnect and cut the ends off the cable as it feeds your house when they do the disconnect).

To clear things up. I will be off cable tv and internet from Comcast. I have the land phone from Verizon and is switching to their FIOS phone line. I'm not getting cable tv. I have decided to get off that and go on over the air because I and no one in my home will have much need to watch anything on tv except of what I can get online Smiley Wink Plus over the air has alot of channels anyway with the hdtv ready television with a built in hdtv reciever.

@lasagna , when you said "keep a careful eye on the Comcast employee that comes out to do the disconnect to make sure they don't touch your new Verizon installation and remove the connection to that service "

What do you mean by that? They'll just be disconnecting from the service box that runs the wire to my home aren'y they? They're not going to also cut the wire in the back of my home that feeds to the inside of it as well are they?

There are a couple of threads that report that when the old provider (not necessarily Comcast, but Time Warner or others) have the tech not only disconnect the connection at the neighborhood wiring junction box, but also disconnect the feed at the d-mark where the cable enters the customers home -- mistakeningly assuming that your are completely terminating service, not switching to another provider and re-using the coax in your home with a new provider.
