I am wondering what Wi-Fi speeds I should expect with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi while close to (in same room as) router?

Totally device dependent.
2.4 ghz is great for distance, 5 ghz is faster but has to be fairly close.
normal WiFi speeds you can get via device might be 30-50% of direct ethernet connection.
my iPads or iPhones because of great radios hit around 340 on speed tests.
my nexus tablet dismal at 220 but it varies.

Odd, I don't even see the 5ghz signal on my phone
Assuming it doesn't support N or AC modes?

I will assume in your router the ssid is seperate in 2.4 & 5 ghz. ? they must be.
Then restart your devices and if they are able to get the higher 5 ghz band it will show as such and then select it and then connect with your password for the network you placed on the network.
Not all devices are capable due to the radios of getting 5 ghz. but most N routers will get the 2.4 ghz. Higher end phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers will be able to connect to either.
