Speedtest.net tells me I get 1 Mbps while verizon speedtest says 50 Mbps??

I seem to be having some serious problems with the speed of my internet. I am unable to even load web pages on wireless. I tried running a speed test (speedtest.net) over wireless and the test failed to complete nearly every time. When it did work, I got values of about 0.1 Mbps download.

Today, I plugged in directly with an ethernet cord and ran the test again and got 1 Mbps. However, when I ran a speed test through verizons website ('speed test by verizon'), they said I had 50 Mbps. Is their test trustworthy? What would explain these huge differences?

test on more speedtest.net servers.

Do about 3-5 different servers and compare the results.

I am pretty confident you just hit a bad server over there.

You're right, when I'm plugged in changing the server fixed the problem and the values are nearly the same. However, running the test using wireless fails nearly all the time. I'm not sure why. I'll start a new thread for that. Thanks for your help.
