Switch ONT from Ethernet to coax

Hi! We have TV, Internet and Phone in our home from Verizon. The ONT (Model ONT1000GJ4) is located in our basement. It is currently provisioned for Ethernet, but since our home is not wired for Ethernet (only coax), the router (G1100) is also located next to the ONT in the basement. My understanding is that coax can only handle up to 100mbps. If that is the case, and since our internet plan is 100/100, can we switch from ethernet WAN to coax WAN without any negative effects? This would also allow us to move our router into the main living area, which will enable us to connect more wired devices to it and should also improve our wireless connections. Thanks.

Yes that is correct. Call Verizon tech support and tell them to switch you to MoCA. If you get the run a round on the phone you can also try @VerizonSupport on Twitter or Verizon Direct at dslreports.com.

Optionally ... leave the router where it is and get an MoCA bridge (ActionTec ECB6200 for instance).   Connect your router to your Coax cable plant using the interface on the router (which may already be in place if you have FiOS TV) and connect the ECB6200 to the Coax cable plant wherever you want to have local ethernet.   (or if you can find one, since you're on 100/100, an older MoCA 1.1 bridge such as an ECB2500 would work).

You can buy an inexpensive 5 or 8 port switch to connect to the ECB6200 if you need multiple ports available.

This will eliminate any of the issues with getting Vz to switch you back to a MoCA provisioning and future proof you should you decide to upgrade your speed later.
