Switch from DSL to FIOS has broken my intranet

Hi,

I just switched from Verizon DSL to their FIOS. I had a simple intranet with the server (my Linux workstation) physically connected to our client desktop (Windows 7). They *were* physically connected via a direct ethernet cable.

Where the old DSL router (Netgear) was connected via a phone line, the new FIOS router uses the ethernet connection (on the client, Windows 7 workstation).

So, since there was no longer the ethernet port available (because the new FIOS router has taken it), I plugged the server (the Linux workstation) ethernet cable into one of the new FIOS router's ethernet connections.

Problem is (I think), the router is not allowing the server access.

2 points:

1. The internet *is* available through my Linux workstation (via the new FIOS installation).

   Just not my intranet connectivity.

2. When I try to go to my Apache homepage (over on the server) - it just loads and loads and loads and finally times out. with this:

The connection has timed out

The server at morrows is taking too long to respond.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
   moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
   connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

So how do I tell my new FIOS router to let my Linux server in?

(I tried all I could through the vz-in home agent.)

tia, matt

I don't understand.

Were you using an Ethernet cross-over cable to connect the Win7 PC to the Linux PC ?

In any case, the FiOS Router has a multiport ethernet sxwitch.  Just connect the Win7 PC to one LAN port and the Linux PC to a second LAN port.  Additional computers can connect to the remaining two LAN ports.

Understanding the toplogy of the Local Area Network (LAN) and how it was setup using DSL will get you moved over to using a LAN with FiOS because there is really no difference.  Perhaps you were statically setting addresses on a different subnet.  The FiOS Router uses 192.168.1.x .
