Turn Off FIOS Wireless?

My computer is connected by cable to FIOS modem/router. I just got hired for a work at home job and my new employer says even though I am connected by cable, the wireless portion has to be turned off during work hours.  Is there a website where I can enter a command to disable the wireless portion of the router?

Login to the VZ router as admin.  The router is address 192.168.1.1 - enter that address into your browser's address line.

If you haven't changed the userid and password then the userid will be admin and the password, password or password1.

On the main screen under quick links select Change wireless settings

On the next screen Item 1. Turn Wireless ON select OFF

Go to the bottom of the page and select Apply

While what has been described so far will turn off "wireless" on the router, I would encourage you to go back to your employer an ask exactly "what" wireless they want turned off.

What your employer may be wanting you to insure is that you turn off any wireless on your laptop / desktop while connected to them.  They are looking to insure that someone can't attack your machine via it's wireless interface while your are attached to their network.

If it is this latter issue to which they are referring, then turning off the wireless on the FiOS router may not meet their requirements (t won't hurt either).  You would need to turn off wireless on your PC itself as well.  This can usually be done by finding the little "wireless" icon in the task bar in the bottom right of screen and right clicking on it and selecting "disable radio".

Hi. I am stuck on the "turn off wireless" step too. I was told by an Apple "expert" that I needed to turn off wireless on the FiOS router. I connect an Apple Time Capsule as part of my network. It is a backup disc, but it is also a router.

I have my network set up in bridge, as instructed, but where/how do we turn off wireless on the modem. The responder in this thread said to log into the router. I have no idea how to do that.

To log into the FiOS router, type http://192.168.1.1 into your web  browser. This should get you to the log in screen.

As another post pointed out, the userid is usually admin, and the password is usually passwd, password, or password1.

If it isn't any of these, you will probably need to talk to Verizon technical support about resetting the router to factory default to establish a working password.. When entering the password, you will get 3 *'s for each character you enter. This is a security feature, you didn't actually entered 3 characters, but that's what the router would like anyone looking over your shoulder to think!

Once you are logged in there is a choice on the lower left 'Change Wireless Settings'. Click on it.

The first choice on the next screen is wireless on or off.

he configuration screens may vary slightly depending on when you purchased your router and the version of firmware running on it.

    1. Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field. [Show Me]

    1. Enter your router user name and password if prompted and click Ok[Show Me]
      • Note: Additional characters will appear to be inserted as you enter your password. This is designed to hide the number of characters in your password.
      • Note: If you didn't change the default password when you set up your router, it may have been changed to your router's serial number to provide greater security. You can find your router's serial number on a label affixed to the bottom or back of your router.
    1. Click the Wireless Settings icon in the top toolbar.

Wireless Settings

After you click wireless settings, then click on basic security.  you will see wireless on/off option
