Two computers, each connected wirelessly to same FiOS router. Each connects perfectly to the Internet, but cannot see each other (ping test).
Normal? Some little change in firewall setting needed?

I would in fact check your firewall in this case. The ping test shouild work every time if you are pinging the PC's Local IP address. It should also work if you are pinging it's IPv6 address if it happens to have a Link-Local address. Many security Suites tend to have Zone settings which allow you to specify whether or not a network is public, private or a corporate network. Make sure it is set to the Home profile.

Whoops. I forgot that in addition to the router firewall I had my own rules via 'iptables,' that dropped all NEW connections. I just needed to allow connections from 192.168.1.0/3

Glad to hear it's been solved from the sounds of things 🙂
