You do want to get off the gen 1 router to newer Verizon router. Preferably on their dime. You can definitely get a better wireless router or access point then Verizon supplies. Wireless-AC are the newest but still fairly expensive. Lots of choices for Wireless-N. If you have TV service you pretty much must have a Verizon router in your setup.
No real need to get rid of the gen 1 router as it provides a perfectly adequate gateway,...

I just got a new Actiontec M1424WR Rev I from Verizon.
Reading these forums, I see multiple references to various Generations.
Can't find any reference to which Generation mine is. Can anyone help me discover the answer??

Rev I is the latest. It is the only M1424WR that is "n" compatible.
Not sure why you san only the I is "n" compatible. F of course is only draft N, but what about the rev G?
You are correct. Don't recall where I got that, but I believed it without verifying. Which was really easy to do.
