Upgrading my DVR

I have FIOS for about 6 months. I went to check what are the latest DVR'soffered by Verizon and what were my DVR's. I found that I have a 3rd gen DVR Motorola QIP 7232) in my Family room (latest) and a 1st Gen (QIP 6416) in my basement. I decided to contact support and got the following:

So, Bottom line is make sure you get the latest equipment at the time you get FIOS otherwise you are **bleep** until your exsisting equipemt fails!!

The following was: I spoke to them and was told simply I could not upgrade unless my current DVR was not working. I could get an increased HD for $50 on my current 1st Gen DVR but that was it. So buyer be wear.
