Few more thoughts:

1) Have you guys been able to pinpoint the event, according to the router logs (both basic and advanced pages), that is causing the connection drops? Again, I only did this for the first time the other day and it pointed to my Chromecast. I haven't had another drop to re-check the logs yet but I think this type of analysis could be helpful. It should tell you whether devices are triggering the drops/reboots or something random on Verizon's end.

2) Someone mentioned flashing DD-WRT. That could be a genius solution if in fact the cause of the issue here is the router.

3) I keep seeing this advertisement for some advanced N router that Verizon has for a one-time $99 upgrade fee. Does anyone know what router they're talking about? Wouldn't surprise me if it's the router we already have (heck, I have 50/25 Quantum and I get a constant banner on my guide asking me to upgrade to 50/25), but maybe it's truly a better router.

1. My logs are too short to capture the information prior to reboot.

2. According to this wiki http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/MI424WR

  • Coax is not supported and will be non functional.

3. Probably the infamous Rev I

Nope, doesn't seem to be tied to a specific event. I've seen reboots first thing in the morning, in the middle of the day and late at night. It's seemingly random.

Could be, but I tried flashing a custom ROM to an old smartphone once and it's something I'll probably never attempt again. It's just not a process thats feasible for an average user, in my opinion.

Not sure, but I think it's the Rev. I we're already using.

HangingJudge: I see the same thing under IGMP Host Multicast Filtering as you do. But my pea brain has absolutely no idea what it could mean.

One good troubleshooting technique to isolate the problem and to find out if the problem is the router or with the ONT etc.  Go to your command prompt type ping www.verizon.net -t or any other URL. Ensure that you type the -t at the end to ensure continuous pings. Disconnect the COAX while the ping is going on. If you continue to see request time out then you will now there is something wrong with the router. After you disconnect the coax you should see desination unreachable but if you  still see request time out you can isolate the problem. Start out by disabling the UPNP as decribed by g00py. Also check your router set up. Ensure that you dont have more than 1 cable going from the router to your switch if you have one. That's how I was able to resolve my problem. Different users may have different issues. Dont depend on Verizon CS they dont seem to know anything

if you have motorrolla STB .   Try disconnecting everything everything and just with the router alone. No STBs connected.  It could be a bad  STB (motorrolla STB)   that is causing the router to reboot on its own.   There was a issue Verizon found that when VZ router could not get a PING response from a STB.  Then it would reboot on its own to correct the issue. Are all your STB are receving good SNR and IP addresses?

I would just try the Router alone with only computers connected without the STBs connected.  try replacing all the STB in the house.

Been there, done that, no difference.

Josimars and cyberdome, thank you. Those are both good troubleshooting steps.

Sorry, I didn't mean for that to come across as rude, just that I'd already tried that suggestion and it didn't fix anything. Thanks for trying though.

So, I'm on my third Rev. I as of today. I fully expect the behavior will continue, so I asked tier 3 to call me again on Sunday. I'll let everyone know the outcome.

Sangs has a point. After a week-and-a-half of discussion, the only fix we've discovered is replacing the Rev. I entirely with something different. Configuration changes and swapping out physical components (ONT, coax, etc.) seem to work for only a very small number of people. Doesn't mean you shouldn't try everything, however.

I'm more and more convinced that the Rev. I's firmware is buggy and no amount of tinkering by us will help. Only a new build will solve the problem, I think.
