Verizon.com Popup Adware

Almost every time I click on a link to a news story from the Verizon News page, I get a popup with the following URL: https://mysurveyscenter.co/usdr/shdr.php?c1=verizon.com How do I prevent Verizon from redirecting me to these unwanted shopping surveys?

1. Is your pop up blocker turned on ?

2. This should work with Win 7 and internet explorer 9 or 10 (I use 10) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/6047-internet-explorer-content-advisor-allow-block-specific-web...

If you have a different browser or OPerating System please let us know. Welcome to the forum

Thank you very much for your response.  My operating system is Windows XP Professional, and I use two different browsers -- Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer 8 (apparently, IE9 is not compatible with Windows XP).  The Verizon.com "shopping survey" page at the cited URL pops up with both browsers.  And yes, I do have my popup blocker turned on, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.  I gather that adware nowadays is so sophisticated that it evades many popup blockers.

I am not very tech savvy, and I have no idea how to prevent this annoying intrusion.  The fine print on the popup page does disavow any connection with Verizon, but the popup only appears when I try to follow a news story link from the Verizon News page (which I have set as my home page).  What do I do next?

Adblock plus and no script can be added to firefox  (tools  - add ons - get ad ons) but with these there is a learing curve and took some reading up to accomplish what I wanted. The issue for me is most everything got blocked till I figured out they can easily be disabled. If you install and hate them - Tools - Ad ons - disable or remove

I agree with Jose about using Adblock Plus, I do not agree about using Noscript.

I believe there is a Beta vesion of Adblock Plus available for IE, but since I do not use IE I do not have it installed. I use Firefox, been using Adblock Plus for years, works great. And I never see the pop-up the OP is referring to (and lots of others on lots of other sites).

I tried to use Noscript, I gave it what I though was a fair trial, a month or so, I found it so intrusive that I just could not stand having it active. I know there are people (many?) that swear by it, I swear (swore) at it. Smiley Very Happy

On Firefox I also use an Add-on called Ghostery. It also seems to help eliminate stuff that Addblock Plus didn't catch, or maybe ignored.

All of the above programs are free, so it can't hurt to try them out, other than maybe irritate you at times, and you can always uninstall them if you don't like them.
