I read all the posts here etc. and still cannot see my webcam from outside my home. I have the Actiontech router and a Trendet wireless camera. I am forwarding port 8888. However, if I enter my router IP (the one starting with 74. that my router software gives me as the IP address with the :8888 after it, I just get "webpage cannot be displayed". The same if I try the 192.168.1.1:8888 from anywhere. I have tried a million different settings, but no success. Help, please !

You configured the camera to listen on port 8888?
You set up a port forward rule for destination the camera (192.168.1.x) tcp any->8888 ?
Then you tried http://YourRoterExternalAddr:8888 ??
You may need to try the access via your external address from an outside machine
To try it internally you need to http://192.168.1.x:8888 where x is the value of the camera, port forwarding is only from the outside you can't port forward from the inside address of the router

192.168.1.x is your internal network ip address.
1- Goto http://www.whatismyip.com/
2- Write down the ip address and try it when you are not at your home network.

I just tried accessing a port forwarded web server on my internal network from an internal machine connecting to the external IP address and it appears to work, never did on an adsl connection

I followed all the advice here. The external IP is correct. Port 8888 is open. But still I cannot see the camera from outside of my network. Immidietely, I get webpage could not be loaded.

Can you access the webcam from your local PC? First we need to confirm local connectivity before checking for access from the Internet.
Oddly enough when I set my webcam up with the help from a friend he was able to access my web cam just by going to my IP address without defining the port number. Maybe you should try that: http://x.x.x.x

If I just enter the IP of my router, the browser sits there for a while and then brings up some google search results.
The caera access works from inside my local network. The motion detection of the camera also works (it sends e-mails).

If..
#1 The port that you forwarded in the router is open from the net.
#2 You typed in your public IP and the port number as need be.
But you can not connect to this server.
This means it is a loopback issue.
--
#1 Loopback turned off in the router?
#2 Loopback filtered (or blocked in the router) ?
#3 Or last but not least, the router does not support loopback.

What was the port forwarding rule you set up?
