Wireless garage door opener do longer works

Didn't find this one on the forum.  My Sears wireless garage door openers stopped working the moment they activated Verizon FiOS.  All wireless transmitters stopped functioning with the garage door closed:  two internal auto, two that came with the opener and the wireless keypad.  However, they operate normally with the garage door open.  Wired opener switch is unaffected.  Overhead Door folks were out today and noted they are following FiOS installations throughout Northern VA  responding to similar complaints.  Verizon allegedly knows there is a shielding issue but they haven't come up with a solution.  Any thoughts?

I don't have an answer, but I have heard of this problem. I haven't heard anything in about two years, but for a while there were a number of people complaining about their door openers not working. I have my FiOS ONT on the outside of my garage wall, and the BBU and power supply are inside the garage, and they have had no effect at all on my opener. I seem to remember that one of the causes was the opener being on the same circuit as the power supply for the ONT, but that could be wrong, and it doesn't seem to match very well with your symptoms.

I just did a search at DSLReports on "fios garage door" and got lots of hits. Here is a link to a thread at DSLReports about the problem: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r17625885-fiosgarage-door-problem. If you go through the thread there are a number of suggestions, like not have the opener on the same circuit with the ONT power supply, to wrapping the BBU in tinfoil!

Hope this might help, it is a real problem for some people.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Lots of good info.  I was off to buy some aluminum foil, then my wife suggested I take a few sheets off our bedroom windows. Smiley Happy

You are welcome. And if you try the tinfoil and it actually works, you absolutely must report that success back here!!!

Hmmm...off the bedroom windows? Is there an interesting story there?

Good luck.

It could be the wireless in the router, try to change the channel to 11 on your wireless router, if that does not work test the other 1-10. A lot of wireless routers will interfere with other wireless signals, cordless phones, wireless mice and keyboards, and yes it can mess with garage doors if on the same 2.4ghz frequency.

Nope, it's not the WiFi router, either one of them.  Thanks to a mocha install rather than the ethernet install that was ordered, I now have enough flashing green LEDs to keep the room lit all night.  I pulled the plug on both routers and the issue remains.  The url in the second post presents two pages of RF issues that are most likely the cause of the problem.

I have definitely heard of this problem. If your ONT was placed inside the garage across from your openers transmitter this will cause this problem. Just call verizon back and they will move your ONT to another location in the garage and everything will work fine.

I would love to see the foil pict's too...:)

The issus seemed to revolve around the Tellabs model 612 Ont.  The fix was to have the unit replaced with the newer Tellabs Model 612A.  If this applies to you then call the Fsc and make arrangements to have your Ont replaced with the newer model.  While you have your tech their ask him to activate your ethernet port too.
