YouTube Issues

Foir the last 48 hours, 99% of the videos I click on on YouTube do not load on my residential FIOS connection in Maryland.  At the same time, I am connected to my work PC which is on the Comcast network and physically located about 15 minutes away from my house and I can load all of the same videos at expected normal speeds at the exact same time they will not load on my home FIOS connection.

Anyone else having the same issue?

Anyone have a solution or answer from Verizon?.

Please bring up a command prompt and execute this command      tracert youtube.com

Then copy and paste the results in your next post.

One thing that may help is to change your DNS servers on the router to 8.8.8.8. and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS servers)

If you need details let us know

PS are you using the verizon supplied router only ?

Problems started 2 days ago.

People talking about it on various Google threads.  Here is one:

Please cnfirm that you are suggesting using Googles DNS servers instead of Verizon?

I ran trcrt a few more times and I kept seeing dropped packets on step 7 (google-gw.customer.alter.net [152.179.50.62])

I pinged the IP listed for hop 7 in the trace and it never listed a drop packet ad responded quicjly (15-19 ms).

I ran a few pings against google-gw.customer.alter.net and got the following:

Note that it is pinging a different IP for that domain than the IP that is listed in the trace.

Meaningful?

Haven't been having issues in a while, was averaging at least 30mbps to Youtube. Today, well, it's a different story. Having issues with 144P youtube videos. Why? Well, look here, Verizon:

http://internethealthreport.com/Main.aspx?OriginValue=Cogent&OriginLevel=1

Verizon - Cogent at NYC is really bad. 25% packet loss. This is ridiculous.

Get more peering capactiy with Cogent. That's the solution.

I have been unable to use YouTube for 48 hours now as well through my two laptops and tablet connected through my wifi.     All other streaming sites are working and my friends with other isp's are having no problems. What gives? This is not isolated as a brief Twitter search shows other customers are experiencing this too. Verizon please don't ignore this issue.

FIOS customer in Maryland here too.  Youtube has been totally un-usable today - on hardwired PC, wireless netbook, tablet, iphone, etc.  I've reset the router, etc.  I'm on 50/25 highspeed plan but can't play a 360p video.   Everything else works great.

COME ON!!!

Another issue here.  It effects not only YouTube across all devices (Android phone and tablet, as well as laptop), but also the ability to download apps from the Google Play store.  Apps were taking hours to download and/or update.

I did a quick test with my phone.  I disconnected from my FiOS wireless router, and connected to my cell carrier (ATT), and, viola, apps downloaded in seconds and YouTube played without issue.

Edit:

I should add that all other streaming works fine.  Netflix streamed over my Chromecast just fine, and speedtest.net gives me as close to the 50/25 speeds that I can reasonably expect without a hardwired connection.

Same issue in Buffalo, NY. Neighbor with FiOS down the street has the same issue.

Youtube has ALWAYS been hit or miss on FiOS, now about 90% of the videos won't even load.

Videos load fine using a VPN, so this is definitely an issue between Google and FiOS.

EDIT: I can also verify the above poster's issues with the Google Play Store as well.

I didn't even realize it, but it seems to be affecting my Google Play too.

It's now day 3 of being unable to stream YouTube also. This is kind of crazy. I'd blame YouTube / Google, but if it's working fine with other providers, I can only assume it's a FiOS issue.
