computer name on my home network now has a dot home appended

I have a home network with serveral computers on it. I name the computer via Windows. I'm using the MI424-WR router.

When I run a nslookup command on one of their IP addresses I notice that a '.home' is appended to the name.

E.g. myname.home

When I look at "My Network" on the router website the "PC Name" doesn't have the '.home' appended to the name.

Why is that? Can I control it?

At one point the names didn't have that but I'm not sure what changed since.

thanks

This is the local domain name for your systems ... if you define entries in your router for static IP assignments or DHCP reservations and give them a name, it gives you a way to differentiate a "local" host from one which may have the same name in a different DNS domain which is listed in your domain suffix search order.

You can change this pseudo-domain suffix, but one word of caution -- do NOT choose an actual registered DNS domain name unless it is the one you actually associate with your computers (picking "verizon.net" for instance and then giving a local computer the name "forums" would result in the actually "forums" site no longer being reachable by any of the computers in your home network.

To change this domain name from home, login to your router (http://192.168.1.1) and then choose "Advanced" and then "System Settings".   The "Local Domain" field is what you are looking to change.
