iWol for iPhone problems

I am trying to use this app for iPhone that lets me turn on my computer when it's off or in sleep mode from my iPhone. It uses the wake on lan standard. It's very awesome when it works. Here it is in the appstore: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iwol-wake-on-lan/id286568674?mt=8 and here is the webpage of the app: http://www.sk4.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=8

I entered the MAC address in the app and turned lan broadcast on and it works every time! It turns on my computer when it's off or in sleep mode. The problem is it doesn't really work when my iPhone is not connected to wifi (wifi from my router only). So I followed the instructions on the site that say I have to forward the incoming requests for port 7 (UDP) to the IP address of the computer I want to turn on. And after many hours I figured out how exactly I do this and I did it it works and now I can turn on my computer from my iPhone when I'm on 3G, but it only works if and only if the computer was recently turned off or put in sleep mode (last 5 minutes or so). This is very weird and I have no idea how to fix this. Anyone have any idea?

Here is how I set up my port forwarding: http://i.imgur.com/P5ttB.png

I think I just discovered the problem. I discovered my problem in the documentation of another app for iPhone that is similar http://www.bananaglue.de/wol/help/WOL%20Setup%20Guide.pdf

On the last page at 2.7 common problems:

2.7 - Common problems
It happens that some routers forget the entered port forwarding setup after a short while
(10 to 45 minutes). In this case you have to setup static routing in your router (contact your
router dealer and ask how to do this). This means that the routing works after the router did
update its ARP table ( and so did „forget“ about the device IP it should forward the wake on
lan „magic packet“ to)

So how do I set up static routing in my verizon router? It's a westell model A90-9100EM15-10.

Log into router adm at 192.168.1.1

Select Advanced from the top menu bar

say Ok to the warning message

Select ARP Table from leftmost Advanced box

Add a new static Connection

You should see your computer in the dhcp connections that appear, you can just open the name and it will show you the lease type.  I'm told you can just check it as static lease type but wonder what effect that has on the dhcp server as the address is actually in the server assigment range

Not sure that I see this will solve your problem but this is one way to add a static connection.

The other is to go into the properties of the NIC on your computer and change the IP address from automatic to static and ensure that the address you enter is 192.168.1.x where x is a number between 2 and 254 and is not included in the router dhcp server range - this will probably mean that you will need to modify the dhcp server properties on the router

It doesn't work... I tried to do it with just static routing at first then with static routing and static ip and it doesn't work... I can only wake up my computer in the first few minutes after it was put to sleep or turned off, after that it doesn't work. Anyone know how to set up VPN? I think that would be a way to fix my problem.

edit: I just called verizon and they said only tier 3 can help me with this and it costs $30 but she wasn't sure 😕 I also asked if I can get another router instead of this westell they gave me when they installed service and she said it's possible that I can get an actiontec router and it doesn't cost anything.. I think this is what I will end up doing...
