If you bought a router. Take it with you. Most people haven't bought their router it come with the installation. The service is being left in place for the next person.

That advice would concern me. Was the router there when you moved in? If not, I would insist on returning it. If the next tenant keeps the router or throws it out, Verizon will probably bill you for it. If they won't provide a shipping box take it to a store and turn it in. And keep the receipt. As a last resort, keep it until they ask for it.

I am in the process of moving and was told by the rep to leave my router in the apartment that I am moving from and they will deliver and set up a new one at my next location. Can someone explain why I'm leaving something that was paid for?
I'd take it with me even if I hadn't bought it. PIA setting up all the customizations and port forwarding again, tough you could unload the configuration and hope that it would load to whatever new one they gave you..
I f you decide to leave it I'd suggest a factory defaults reset to hide passwords and the like
