network icon shows no connection but I'm online

since switching from comcast to verizon fios, I've noticed that my network icon will show no network connection but I'm online.  it's rather annoying

is there a fix for this?

I'm not able to see your picture at the moment as it is still being approved by a moderator, but in many cases in the past disabling IPv6 or changing your DNS servers have been known to fix that. It's a simple DNS + HTTP check that brings that icon up.

I turned off ipv6 for my nic.

as for DNS, I use openDNS so I'm not really sure what I would need to change.
