For those that haven't seen the advertising, the Verizon FiOS TV web page that advertises the FiOS plans says "Check out over 17,000 Video On Demand titles available to every FiOS TV customer." I have only seen the 11,000 free VOD titles statement in the TV ads.
http://www22.verizon.com/Residential/FiOSTV/Overview.htm#plans
Scroll down past the three plans, the Channels and Add-Ons sections to the Video On Demand Library section. It restates the 17,000 number again in the "Here's what you get with FiOS TV" box at the bottom of that page.
In the VOD section, there is a button to browse the library which takes you to the FiOS TV Central VOD menu. Under "VOD Listing", you can get the entire list of titles or filter by Popular Categories, Genre, Rating, and Price . It doesn't seem to be a complete listing as the unfiltered list has about half (8,835) are listed. I'll give Verizon the benefit of the doubt that the VOD Listing on their web site is not complete or maybe there are some things that are grouped together that I'm not seeing; however, we have no other way of verifying this information. There are 7218 Free (and Free* subscription only) titles when you use the Price filter.

Right now I am watching Bringing Down the House (2003) on Oxygen. It is also shown on almost any channel on most weekends. On Fios On Demand, it is available for $2.99. The Birdcage (1996) is another movie that many channels run on weekends. OnD has it too - for $3.99. Why would I pay for 7-14 year old movies that I can watch repeatedly for free? I never thought I'd say this but I will be returning to Comcast very soon. Yes, they are more expensive but I now see you get what you pay for.

Yeah ... that is one of things I missed when I switched from Comcast to Verizon FiOS -- however with the delta in cost for me, I went and got Netflix Streaming (which I run from my PS/3) and found a lot of those old titles on there with the rest available via DVD. So, I"m back on par and still ahead in terms of cost/month from what I had with Comcast.
And ... there's always Redbox ... can't beat $1/night rentals,

I did manage to spot a movie in the listings (after hitting on-demand button) that was free. BUT, there seems to be no way to search (or filter) JUST for free content.
So, if you're intent on watching something free, you just have to look around (and look, and look, and look some more) until you find something free worth watching.
FIOS, PLEASE, add a menu topic for FREE MOVIES or something similar. Make it EASY for your users to find that stuff.
And If you're charging anything for a movie that's already been on free (network) TV more than a couple times, you should take it out of you menu. Nobody is going to pay to watch it.

OK< please disregard at least part of this post. I don't know how I brain-cramped over it, but I now see the free movie menu.
But still, choices are "weak" to say the least and old movis are not free when they should be.

I have to laugh, I just saw an xFinity (what incredibly **bleep** name) commercial claiming they have over 20,000 VOD choices. Nice to see Comcast hasn't changed their strips either (just their name ). Yes I am becoming disillusioned with Verizon (I am really mad about the HD channels being dropped and having those garbage .tv channels remain) but I would NEVER EVER go back to Comcast.
And I have to laugh at some of you posters, you're complaining that Verizon doesn't have enough FREE movies so you're willing to go back to Comcast, AND PAY MORE (triple play specials are nothing more than a Wolf in Sheep's clothing), so you can watch FREE VOD movies? Does that make them REALLY free??????
Sorry not trying to pick on anybody. I do agree Comcast does offer better VOD than Verizon but it is the ONLY thing they do better. Lesser HD quality picture, far fewer channel choices and higher overall costs IMO isn't worth the extra "free" VOD choices to me. Just my 6 1/2 cents.

We just lost about 40 channels by upgrading.... UGH. Of course, we weren't told upfront that we'd be losing channels. Really bummed.

There probably are that many free titles. Over the whole month. The titles for some networks change every day. Some of the other ads etc. Mentioned talk about the number of VOD available not the number of free titles, and so those numbers are higher.
