I am anxiously awaiting this as well. I would even be happy with a time frame for release. IE late or mid 2013. But from past experience I do not think we will be getting the release date until it rolls out.

VZ better hurry up.

Both Dish and DirecTV seem to have players that are the same, if not better (Hopper) than VZ's new product...

And VZ's product isn't even out yet - even though it was supposed to be out last year.  Oh and to me it looks like the monthly fees for the hopper are VERY reasonable?

Not that I'm encouraging VZ to rush something that isn't ready...  But at this rate, their competitors are going to release  their next generation of HW before VZ gets the "current" one deployed.

What you are referring to is the six tuner fios media dvr which is set to be released this september and no later than october. It has been delayed a bunch of times but there will be no delay this time. Now just because it will be released this fall it does not mean that everyone will have an opportunity to get it at the same time. It depends on which vho it is that you are receiving your fios from and it also depends on what type of box you have as far as when it will be available in your area. If you have a mottorola box then you will be one of the ones who will get to have it first where verizon will be offering a discount to those who are the first to want it and get it. The recording will be done by that six tuner dvr while the additional smaller boxes will allow you to watch anything that has been taped on that main dvr where all of the programs will be stored on that six tuner dvr. Verizon has chosen to concentrate all of their efforts on making fios tv the best that it could be to at the very least match what the competition has to offer where people will have a chance to experience it this fall. A new fios guide release. A new company who will be providing the tv guide data. A six tuner dvr and a bunch of hd channels are on the way. Big things are coming this fall where some of it could happen even sooner than september.

They are currently being beta tested in specific markets of TX and PA only.

Thanks for the info. Did you hear if the VMS 1100 Media Server will have expandable dvr capability like the QIP 7232p2 dvr?

That is a rumour over at DSL Reports regarding testing when and where, and rumours are cheap, and not always accurate. When it comes from Verizon, you will know. When Verizon releases the details you will know.

But no one knows for sure until Verizon says so!

Dave Zats in Jan. also said no external storage at time of roll out, and I know his sources. But we will need to hear from Verizon. Some of his information along with mine may be dated. I too was at CES 2013, so this information from Jan. that says no external storage may not be accurate. We need information from Verizon, and not third parties. Verizon will release the feature set when they are tested and ready to publish. Things change.

From Dave "Yeah, 1TB is barely sufficient given this box’s role in the home. Unfortunately, the initial roll out will not include support for external storage. But it better be on the roadmap…"

My information posted from CES 2013 with links to various sources.

Dave must have been updated as the link to his website reveals. I did not go to NAB.Smiley Happy

Oh another comment in regards to external storage. I can't wait to see this hardware again in full action! Right now I am running a Media Center Server, Quad Core CPU, 16 TB of RAM, 1 TB drive for storage, 5 clients. 1 TB seems plenty for my storage needs at this time. I could add more if desired. But even on my old TiVO with the 1TB drive I had, it was more than enough, unless you want to keep a huge library of video. I believe the sole purpose is to have the ability for multiple users to recorde and watch the content later. Not to sore it forever. Drives don't lat forever. IMHO.

@prisaz - It's not a rumor and Verizon has said so. Got it straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, when contact was initiated regarding possible beta testing. Had to give them my zip code and address and was told I didn't qualify because only specific areas of TX and PA were in the beta testing market. Not sure if it gets more official than that.

Well like I said in my previous post, things change. But I have not seen anything in regards to PA or TX, I would not say anything if I have not seen it in an official or public announcement. I DO NOT TWITTER and it is a shame, if that has become Verizon's primary release of news. It was not on their news site, and not recently in the private circles for which I am connected. So as a CL it looks like we are kept in the dark again, or people are tweeting bad infor. Don't know. Like I said things change, and sometimes people talk about things they should not.
