Flex View RipOff... Who are these people and where do they come from?

Remember the days of going to blockbuster, renting a flick, watching it once, maybe again with a friend before your 3 days were up? Well I was under the impression thats what "rental" was assimilating these days...

I tried out the free flex view offer and man am I glad it was "free" because....

At beginning of flick during credits I decide I wanna slap a quick hoagie together before I enjoy a movie I really wanted to see... So Im on my way back to the TV when I hear the pause expire... Then I go back to my folder and its gone????

Are you telling me if you stop a rental (because my grandma fell down the stairs per se)  

...then thats it cant watch it again at all?

Man if that doesn't say "All we care about is money" I don't know what does.

Verizon is just lucky they have killer landline internet, otherwise they wouldnt know who I am.

I think TV sucks we only have it cuz my wife wants it.

The set top box and remote is unresponsive laggy crap too.

I like Netflix much better. Any movie they have available, for as many times as I want to watch, when I want to watch, for less than the cost of most rentals.

And all you need to stream it is that killer landline internet you mentioned. 😉 (Well, that and a compatible tv/device.)

Netflix is by far, the worst streaming service I've ever used. Most of the movies don't have subtitles and the few movies they actually have sucks. It was a fine free service when it was included with the DVD's ,now they can't justify the $7.99 a month charge...

Did you watch less than 5 minutes of the movie?

If you watched less than 5 minutes of the movie, it is considered a free preview and does not count. You will not be charged for it, and it will not count as your free rental.

i like netflix and amazon vod better.  amazon is cheaper too  3.99 for hd rental  🙂 

but you should be able to go to your library, and hit resume play and it should resume where you left off.

also to fix the lagginess go to menu > settings > video settings > SD OVERRIDE   and select off.   that should speed it up.

Same thing happened to me!!! But I was in the movie for 30 minutes, needed to get some water, paused.  It exited out.  Went back, rental isn't there.  So I just rented it again, because online it shows up that I still have the rental.  I go to fast forward to get to the place where I was, I can only go 2x!!!  Jeeze.  Glad I got to try it for free, now I know not to waste my money using this horrible glitchy service.  Amazon Instant Video has my money from now on.

A quick perusal of these forums will reveal a general dissatisfaction with VZ VOD. People report frustrating VOD errors, slow menus, failure of "resume play", and poor menu selection or choices. I, too, have suffered all these things and refuse to submit myself to self-induced torture. I supplement my normal FIOS viewing by hooking up the laptop to the TV, and through the most excellent ROKU device. I really like the ROKU experience, as it streams flawlessly (wired hookup, not WiFi for me) with remarkable picture quality - all from a device the size of a hockey puck. As an Amazon Prime member, I get a lot of "free" movie and TV choices, and purchase prices are as good or better than any competitor, including VZ. Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, are also good alternatives, with many raving about the picture quality of the Vudu service (although at present Vudu is not yet available on ROKU). The top-tier services offer the best choice and picture quality, and it varies with other independent channels.  Any combination of these services is a far cry better than the current sad state of affairs with VZ VOD, economically cheaper even, and ultimately quite satisfactory. Keep in mind that most of these services offer free introductory trials, so you get to try before you buy. I now automatically reach for the ROKU remote rather than the VZ remote. Choice, good picture, reasonable - that about sums it up. Sadly, VZ has lost this race.

That is amazing to hear. I have had their service for over three years and it seems to get better with time. The rental should not have vanished especially after the immediate purchase/rental. This usually will disappear after the rental period i.e. 1-2 days. I love my service and have not seen one that is comparable.

So instead of using the Pause button, does it make more sense to push Stop?  Then when you are ready to watch the movie again you should be able to click 'Resume Play'.  I have never had a problem with the Resume Play function.

The Verizon VOD is usually hit-or-miss.  Not long ago, I selected SAVAGES and...lo and behold...the version Verizon was offering was cropped (as is done by HBO and STARZ).  Since I don't watch a movie that's missing 30% of the image, I had to stop it and call for to have the order cancelled. (Vudu had it in the correct aspect ratio.)

As for those using Amazon, there's a reason it's cheaper...theHD picture quality is below standards (only 720p and no 5.1 audio on many titles...while Verizon at least udders 1080p and Dolby 5.1).  Amazon may be acceptable to some but I'll never use it again...not even close to Vudu and CinemaNow (which both offer 1080p and Dolby Digital Plus).

But if it's between Amazon and Verizon, I'll take the FIOS option any day..  But for picture/sound, Blu-Ray is really the ONLY way to go.  No streaming service is as good.
