A green shield icon appears next to certain programs recorded on my FIOS DVR. When I push play, the program does not play and the television simply reverts to whatever live program is currently on. I know from other posts that this icon is SUPPOSE to mean the program is saved from deletion, but this result seems like just the opposite. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

yes, the shield icon stands for a protected show....
there is a knonw issue where a corrupted recording will not play and will revert to live TV
sounds like you may have some corrupted recordings.....
try unplugging the power to the box... see if that helps
if not, simply delete the bum recordings.....
if the issue continues with future recordings
contact tech support for a replacment DVR...

It's a known issue, there are many threads on this in the Technical Assistance forum (this is the Programming forum). Basically, your recordings are toast due to a common software glitch.

I just got the green shield while copying Grays Anatomy. I get half way thru and it goes back to live tv. I even waited till after midnight thinking it would then be available on the on demand but of course no luck. This stinks. Bummer.

that particular problem will be fixed with IMG 1.8 which everyone "should" have by end of the month. don't replace your dvr as it won't fix the problem and only cause you frustration as you have to wait for it to be shipped program/activate it and lose all your recordings and schedules. wait for the update.

What exactly does that shield mean? A "protected" show? What does that mean?

If the DVR runs out of room to record, it starts deleting the oldest recorded show. If you have it protected, it will not erase that show.
