Real time firewire capture is a good option to go to the PC

You get a TiVo. I can transfer any of my FiOS recordings to another TiVo(on my account) or to a PC for permanent storage or for burning to a Blu-ray Disc(or DVD)

It is awkward but I have a Coax line out the DVR that goes to my Media Center Computer (which has the same multimedia software that is built into Vista) and then to my computer's TV tuner. (This is the same line out function that you use to send the DVR output to a VCR) Using my Media Center software, I can play the recorded DVR program and record that on my computer. Once in the computer, I can transfer the file by my wireless network to my laptop. It is a bit convoluted and requires a computer with a TV Tuner to record the program, but it can be done if I really want the item recorded to the computer.

You could get a Haupauge HD PVR model # 01212. It's expensive at 200 bucks but it might work for you. I think there are other devices available also.

Another option is to buy a Slingbox/HAVA/other placeshifter and record from there. Or you can use whatever video/audio inputs are on your computer and try that. But no, you can't just drag-and-drop copy recordings...yet.

Aren't the recordings encoded now, making the firewire option (which is digital) pretty much unusable? When I tried this over a year ago,  I wan't able to capture from firewire.

So you basically have to use one of the outputs used for viewing the content on a TV - non-digital. Some computers are equipped for to input non-digital audio and video, for others you can buy USB-based capture devices.

Is this still an unsupported action? I recently went to Verizon and was told that this can be done.
